Plush toys are something we often see in our daily lives, thanks to their incredibly versatile uses. They can serve as toys for children, be given as gifts to friends, or even displayed at home as decorative items. Yet, many people aren’t quite sure how to choose the right plush toy, worrying that they might pick one made from poor-quality materials that aren’t hygienic—and could potentially harm their health. So let’s take a look at what the main materials used in making plush toys actually are.

Plush toys typically consist of fabric and filling—let's start by looking at the fabric:

T/C fabric: This refers to polyester-cotton blend fabric, where polyester makes up more than 60% and cotton accounts for 40% or less, highlighting the distinctive style of polyester.

It also boasts the advantages of cotton fabrics, exhibiting excellent elasticity and abrasion resistance both in dry and wet conditions, maintaining dimensional stability with minimal shrinkage, and offering a crisp, structured appearance.

Its features—wrinkle-resistant, easy to wash, and quick-drying—can easily generate static electricity, and when viewed at an angle, it appears glossy. It is commonly used for product straps and suspenders.

Ultra-soft: This is a newly developed knitted warp-knit pile fabric, and ultra-soft is a type of short-pile velvet. The fabric boasts a remarkably soft hand feel with a distinctively textured, plush appearance. When dyed and finished, it not only exudes vibrant, eye-catching brilliance and radiant shine but also features strong three-dimensional effects and dynamic movement. Visually, it presents a clean, fresh, and elegant look, offering excellent breathability and drape. Its texture is supple, lightweight, and sheer, delivering a smooth, silky touch with remarkable elasticity—resulting in an exceptionally comfortable and flowing feel. After undergoing high-temperature shrinkage treatment, the fabric maintains its shape beautifully, resisting deformation and wrinkling while exhibiting outstanding physical properties, including high fiber strength and exceptional abrasion resistance. Typically, it’s commonly used in 1.5-millimeter or 2.5-millimeter pile variations.

Stretchy Ultra-Soft: This is a new type of fabric with a细腻 texture. Its softness far surpasses that of ordinary ultra-soft fabrics, as well as velvet and velveteen. It offers four-way stretch, boasts elegant color tones, exhibits exceptional durability and abrasion resistance, maintains a beautiful appearance, and comes in a wide range of vibrant colors.

  Next comes the filling:

  Fibrous filler

Most plush toys are made using PP cotton—also known as hollow fiber cotton—that has been processed to become fluffy and then mechanically or manually stuffed into the toy. This material is widely available and its usage is steadily increasing.

  Material filler

This material commonly includes shaped cotton, which comes in a variety of thickness specifications and can be easily cut to size.

  Granular filler

Primarily, there are plastic particles and foam particles. In addition, plant leaves and flower petals can also be used—after being dried through a special process, they’re transformed into plant-based granules for filling. In plush toys, granular fillers are commonly employed for parts like the eyes and nose.
